The Jansons Cup was nothing short of a success! Eighty competitors were present each bringing particular vibrancy and team spirit to their respective teams. The gloomy weather did not thwart the enthusiasm for the rowing activities in the slightest. The notion of leaving the event with all the bragging-rights proved too enticing to let a little rain ruin the event. The Jansons Cup was held at Dorney Lake, a world-class sporting and events venue with a remarkable Olympics history. What an inspiring venue to go head to head against colleagues, friends and a variety of new faces!

The Jansons Cup consisted of heats followed by the semi-finals then lastly the A and B finals to decide the winning teams. Aided by the excellent staff at Dorney, all our rowers were able to get up to speed with their rowing skills. The heats quickly gave spectators an idea of which teams would be the ones to beat, some of these being Blaser Mills (Songs Of Blaze), Barton Wilmore (Without A Paddle), In The Ship (a mixed team of colleagues and friends) and Savills (Savills Row). However hot on their trail through the cup were Bidwells (Up Creek Sans Paddle Avec Rose), Quatro (Quatro PR), Turley (That’s How Turley Row), Broadway Malyan (ArchAngels) and the host Jansons Property. In the end, the “Crabbing” award was given Quatro who may have finished last in the competition but displayed the most heart! The B finals award went to our runners up Savills who were a consistent threat throughout the competition. However, after a rocky start to the competition Blaser Mills took the title trophy home making them the winners of the Jansons Cup 2019.

The event ended with a short awards ceremony and a feast fit for a venue full of hungry rowers. An interesting fact provided by Joseph Murphy (Jansons Sponsee Rower) during dinner, the average rowing athlete consumes 6000 calories per day. Suddenly the buffet on display did not seem like it would last very long with 4 other professional rowers in the room! The final achievement of the day was truly astounding, due to the generous donations from our guests, over ten thousand pounds was raised for the Alexander Jansons Fund. These donations will support the funding of research into the causes, prevention and cures of Myocarditis.

We would like to thank all of the competitors and supporters for making this year’s Jansons Cup a spectacle to remember. We look forward to hosting an even more memorable event next year!
